If you’ve had low back pain for a while now, you must be familiar with its effect on your everyday movements.
Whether it’s lifting objects or turning around to reach for the remote, low back pain can make it increasingly difficult for you to live a normal life.
It is estimated that at least 80% of the population will experience low back pain at some point in their lives.
This is why it is essential to explore treatment options that can help you manage this common health complaint.
Physical therapy is considered to be an important part of recovery programmes for people suffering from low back pain.
The aims of such programmes include restoring strength in the back muscles, increasing flexibility, improving spinal movements and endurance.
A study was conducted to determine how one physical therapy session can boost movement patterns for people with chronic low back pain.
For this purpose, the authors analysed three days of physical activity in fourteen people, both before and after one session of physical therapy.
The session included exercises, patient education and spinal manipulation.
There was found to be a slight increase in physical activity among the people recruited for this study right after the first treatment session.
This result has great potential for guiding rehabilitative programmes that are designed for those with low back pain; physical therapy tailored to meet individual needs can help in achieving successful results.
